Centre-backs could be the order of the day in the January transfer window for many top clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham.

The Gunners’ title challenge last season was derailed by an injury to William Saliba, while Spurs’ brilliant start to the season was halted by and injury to Micky van de Ven and a suspension for Cristian Romero.

Speaking on The Debrief, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on one very talented centre-back in regards to both north London clubs, claiming that both Spurs and Arsenal hold an interest in Goncalo Inacio.

Spurs and Arsenal keen on Inacio

Jacobs shared what he knows about the £52m man.

“You also have the Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio who has been interesting to Tottenham and to an extent to Arsenal as well. They have done normal scouting on the player and he’s also on the list at Manchester United as well,” Jacobs said.

One to watch

This is a very exciting rumour and one to keep an eye on in January.

That £52m release clause can be activated at any time, and it has to be said that this is a signing that is right in either Spurs or Arsenal’s wheelhouse.

Inacio is a promising young player who is impressing at Sporting, and that fits right into Arsenal and Spurs’ recent recruitment strategies.

Of course, with Arsenal flying high at the top of the Premier League, they may have the edge in this race, but, Tottenham’s need to sign a centre-back is arguably greater, so perhaps Tottenham will be the ones pushing hardest for this one.

We’ve seen Tottenham and Arsenal go head to head over a number of signings in recent years, and, as we all know, these transfer battles can go either way.

With the January window just weeks away, this is a situation worth keeping a keen eye on.
