Report: Inter Milan make Everton target Denzel Dumfries their number one priority
Everton could miss out on signing Denzel Dumfries this summer, with Inter Milan now making the Dutchman a ‘priority’ signing.
That’s according to reports in Italy, where Calciomercato claim that Inter have now put Dumfries at the top of their list to replace Achraf Hakimi.
The reports will be a blow to Everton, who have been courting Dumfries all summer. Indeed, the Toffees were said to be pressing ahead with their move for the Dutchman as recently as last week.
PSV are thought to be seeking around £30m for Dumfries. The flying full-back saw his value rocket after an impressive Euro 2020 with the Netherlands.
The 25-year-old scored two goals during the tournament. It was no big surprise, though. Dumfries scored four and assisted nine last season as he displayed his full attacking prowess.
Everton are looking to give new manager, Rafa Benitez, some fresh faces to work with next season. They’ve already signed Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.
Getting away from Everton?
Dumfries would be such a good signing for Everton but it does appear it’s drifting away with each passing week.
The Dutchman seems suited to the Premier League. He can defend, but like all good modern full-backs, he can bomb forward and create as well.
Inter are obviously keen on a new right-back. They’ve already targeted Hector Bellerin from Arsenal, with Dumfries now another name on their long list of Hakimi replacements.
Everton are still in the mix, though. Inter are struggling for cash, while the Toffees are never scared of spending if required.
