Inter Milan could reportedly release ace, Arsenal fans would love him at Emirates
It is seven years since Arsenal paid £35million to sign Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona. Since then, he netted 80 goals for Arsenal, left the club to join Manchester United and is now potting around on the fringes at Inter Milan. Reports claim Sanchez could be released, and Arsenal fans have responded.
Sanchez, 32, has spent the last two and a bit seasons at Inter Milan. Initially joining the Serie A outfit on loan from Manchester United in the summer of 2019, he has since gone on to play 71 times for Inter. He has since clocked up 30 goal involvements, scoring 11 and creating 19.
It is a world away from his form in North London. Sanchez became the darling of the Emirates stadium, scoring a huge 80 goals in 166 games for the Gunners. In that time, he also laid on a whopping 45 assists. Sanchez needs to find a club where he is loved, and at Inter, he is not.
Inter Live report that the club could release 139-time Chile international Sanchez in the coming days and weeks. He is currently earning £115,000 a week according to the report, and Inter would like his wages off the bill. Sanchez has entered the final two years of his contract with the Nerrazzuri.
Inter of course, have numerous options in the final third. Edin Dzeko starts having replaced Romelu Lukaku, with Lautaro Martinez first choice alongside the Bosnian. New signing Joaquin Correa is given preference to Sanchez, as is Ivan Perisic, Hakan Calhanoglu and plenty of others.
Sanchez needs to leave on a free: Arsenal fans have their say…
Meanwhile at Arsenal, the Gunners are lacking a spark. While Mikel Arteta has finally wormed his side’s way out of a tricky start – with two 1-0 wins over Burnley and Norwich. Injuries, positive tests and a whole host of new signings saw momentum hard to come by initially.
But players are returning from isolation and injuries – and now, Arsenal have a bit of momentum. The Gunners, though, still lack a bit of creativity. A bit of magic to unlock a Norwich or a Burnley on more than just one occasion. The old Sanchez would have certainly increased the threat.
Now, Arsenal re-signing Sanchez would be sensational – especially on a free. The Gunners are trying to form an identity, one in which they only bring in younger players. They have made mistakes in recent history when it comes to signing elder players on big contracts – Willian, for example.
Signing Sanchez would be a risk given his recent form, his age, and his wages. But the difference between signing Sanchez and Willian, is that Sanchez is already a favourite at Arsenal. He has already shown he can do it in North London, under the expectant Gunners fanbase.
If Inter do end up releasing Sanchez, Arteta has got to break Edu’s strategy and implore the Gunners board to bring him back. Not just because he is a class player, but because his relationship with the fans would re-inject some much-needed enthusiasm. Arsenal fans want Sanchez, if he is on a free.
