Report: Tottenham could sign 'amazing' Qatar 2022 call-up for just £26m, his club are already seeking replacements
Tottenham have been given a boost in their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, with reports claiming the Serie A side are already seeking replacements.
Reports this week have suggested Dumfries is on the radar of Antonio Conte. The Spurs coach has struggled to get the ideal wing-backs he wants since arriving. Despite using Emerson Royal, Mat Doherty, and Djed Spence, the right side appears to be a problem for Conte’s Spurs.
And with Dumfries said to be on Conte’s radar, it appears Inter could be ready to sell. A report from Rudy Galetti claims that Inter are already seeking replacements for the Dutchman.
The Serie A side are said to be open to the idea of Dumfries. Rudy Galetti reports how bidding could start at around the £26m mark. Inter, then, are said to eyeing alternatives.
One of those options could be Spurs flop Emerson Royal. Despite being a regular under Conte, Spurs fans widely regard Royal as being a player who needs replacing. Inter are also looking at other players in Serie A, such as Wilfried Singo, who Spurs have looked at themselves.
Tottenham are expected to back Conte once again in January. Spurs currently sit third in the PL table, while they qualified for the last 16 of Europe as well.
TBR’s View: Dumfries is an upgrade for Tottenham
Spurs really do need to get this right-hand side sorted out. Doherty isn’t fancied, Spence is going to be farmed out on loan, and Emerson Royal just keeps getting it wrong.
However, Dumfries is the sort of player who can improve things. He’s done well with Inter and having just been called up to the World Cup by Louis van Gaal, seems to be doing well for Holland.
Certainly, he’s an upgrade for Spurs. And at £26m or so, he’s not the most expensive signing Tottenham will ever make.
