Inter Milan’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed the Nerazzurri’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Inter’s supposed interest has been reported for several weeks, with speculation having been rife the Italian club want a cut-price deal for the Denmark international.

Marotta has now validated those claims of interest, but has stressed contact is yet to be made with the north London club.

He said (Sky Sports): “Often important players are offered to us. Eriksen is an excellent player whose contract expires in June and we have had no contact with Tottenham.

“I still believe that there are many teams interested in him and we have not started any kind of negotiations.

“I simply say that he is an important and interesting player. We are looking for a midfielder and an outsider, we are having several contacts with companies and agents to try to improve this position.”

Eriksen has been tipped to leave Spurs this month, although manager Jose Mourinho has stated he doesn’t know if that will actually happen.

The 27-year-old doesn’t appear to want to sign a new deal with the club, and will leave for nothing in the summer if he does not go in January.

TBR’s view – Spurs must get rid quickly

At this point, it is surely in Tottenham’s best interests to try and get rid of Eriksen as quickly as possible.

Daniel Levy will have accepted he can’t get big money for Eriksen, and he should now co-operate with Inter knowing they are indeed interested.

Sanctioning Eriksen’s departure quickly can then allow Giovani Lo Celso to have a great role for Tottenham, and the money generated by his sale can perhaps be used to purchase a defender.
