Lorenzo Insigne has already given Liverpool a close-up glimpse of what he can do this season, netting a last-gasp winner which gave Napoli a 1-0 victory over the Reds on Matchday 2 of the Champions League.
According to Gazzetto Dello Sport, via TalkSport, Jurgen Klopp liked what he saw that night and holds an interest in bringing the Italian frontman to Anfield to bolster his already frightening array of attacking options.
That same report also claims that Napoli have named their price for the Italian international; a staggering £90m.
That would smash the Reds’ transfer record and for a man who can play across the frontline but who would not be a guaranteed starter, that does not represent good value.
Liverpool could perhaps use another versatile forward, but it is not such a high priority that Klopp should meet those high demands.
As much as signing one of the few players who have put Liverpool to the sword this season might excite the fans, it’s time for Klopp to shelve these plans and go for a more affordable option.
The purchase of Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer shows that value can be found, especially in pursuit of fringe players and Klopp should go in that direction again.
