Injuries could present Divock Origi with last chance to save his Liverpool career

The international break has not been kind to Liverpool. Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita have all been hit down by the so called curse, opening the door to fringe players. One of those could be Divock Origi.

Having returned from an unsuccessful loan spell in Germany last season, Origi struggled in pre-season and is yet to have any opportunities with the Reds’ first team in 2018/19.

The Belgian’s only appearance this campaign has been for the under 23s, getting a run out against Swansea under 23s as he scored once and notched a further assist.

There is plenty of competition at Anfield with the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke also vying for a spot in the side behind the first choice front three, with Rhian Brewster also nearing a return from injury.

Origi is unlikely to have much of a future in the north-west unless he really takes advantage when given the chance, and that chance could be imminent.

If he does get a run out, Origi will know that his Liverpool career could hinge upon how he fares. He’ll be glad that such an opportunity could come against Huddersfield, but he’ll need to prove his point and step up too.
