‘Influence’…Premier League player has convinced £30m player now not to join Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur thought they were close to signing Antonio Nusa but the player looks to be on his way to Brentford now.

Nusa emerged as a target for Spurs last week and it had been claimed that talks were well underway over a deal worth around £25m being signed off.

However, reports today have since emerged to say that it is Brentford who have stolen a march on Spurs and agreed a £30m deal with Club Brugge for Nusa. The Bees are also thought to have offered Nusa regular football, something Tottenham couldn’t do just yet.

But there is another influence at play in the move as well.

According to Norway based journalist Francois Plateau, Nusa has had a conversation with fellow Norway international Kristoffer Ajer. And it is from this conversation that the young winger has been swayed into not signing for Spurs and choosing Brentford instead.

Contacts matter for Tottenham and Nusa

Clearly, players in the game speak to each other and this looks to be a classic case of two international teammates getting their heads together and coming to a decision.

On paper, and in fairness to Nusa, a move to Brentford will probably offer more opportunities for him than a move to Tottenham at the moment. For that, you have to admire his decision really.

However, if the move to the Bees goes south and he doesn’t perform, then he might never get the chance to sign for a club like Tottenham again. On that side of things, there is an element of risk.

Nusa is obviously one of the top young talents in Europe right now and it’s easy to see why clubs want to sign him.

For Spurs, though, it looks like not having the right contact or player already in their squad might just have cost them a bit here.
