A number of Arsenal fans have waxed lyrical about Takehiro Tomiyasu’s display for the Gunners against Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta’s charges fell to a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford, with Tomiyasu involved in a controversial moment as a key decision went against him.

In first-half stoppage time, with the score evenly poised at 1-1, a free kick looked to be heading towards the 22-year-old.

Whilst Gabriel Martinelli got a head to the ball first, Tomiyasu didn’t get the chance to get to it.

Harry Maguire tugged on the Arsenal defender’s arm and dragged him to the ground, a seemingly certain penalty shout.

However, neither Martin Atkinson nor VAR followed it up, depriving the Gunners of a chance to potentially make it 2-1 by half-time.

United went on to win 3-2 as Cristiano Ronaldo netted a brace to add to Bruno Fernandes’ 44th-minute equaliser.

Arsenal had opened the scoring through Emile Smith Rowe on 13 minutes and Martin Odegaard struck in the 54th minute.

However, the Gunners couldn’t overhaul United’s three goals, which condemned them to an empty-handed trip back to the Emirates.

Despite the defeat, Tomiyasu performed admirably, keeping Jadon Sancho largely quiet and getting forward at moments too.

The Japan international also made a great block late on to deny Fernandes a second.

Here is what some Arsenal fans made of Tomiyasu’s display:
