In which position does Phil Jones play best?
Ever since the transfer of Phil Jones from Blackburn to Manchester United, we have seen him deployed in midfield and in defence. He is more than capable of playing in both positions as we have enough seen on many occasions.
If we go back to the Manchester United v Everton at Old Trafford, we saw Jones in a role that he excelled in. Sir Alex had sent him out and told him to man mark Marouane Fellaini and he did this excellently.
After the first game of the season at Goodison Park where Fellaini proved to much to handle for Manchester United, Sir Alex seemed determined not to let this happen again. As did Phil Jones.
We also saw Jones used in this role when they played Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. This however was against much tougher opposition in Cristiano Ronaldo. This did not prove to be too much for Jones and he managed to stop Ronaldo doing any major damage.
It is well-known that Phil Jones see’s his future at the centre of defence but recently he has said that he is willing to bide his time and as long as he is in the team, he would be happy to play anywhere.
When he has been given his chance to play as a central defender, he has not disappointed. He has shown to everyone that he does have the potential to become a world class defender and maybe even the future captain of England.
