Darren Bent thinks Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson could be about to have a brilliant season in the Premier League.
Wilson joined Newcastle from Bournemouth back in the summer window of 2020 for a fee worth around £20 million (BBC) but has struggled with injuries, despite being brilliant when he has been available.
And speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty show, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has said he thinks Wilson will be in the race for the Golden Boot this season, provided he stays fit.
The 30-year-old got off to a great start on Saturday as he bagged a superb goal against Premier League new-boys Nottingham Forest.

The Magpies went on to win the game 2-0 and Wilson has now scored in four out of the last five Premier League openers.
The big test for Wilson will be staying fit as he’s struggled to get a consistent run in the Newcastle team due to injuries. But if he does, Bent is backing him to be amongst the best strikers in the league this season.
Bent told the Kelly and Wrighty show: “He’ll [Wilson] be in the race for it. If he can stay fit, Callum Wilson, he’ll be in the race for the golden boot.
“All these traditional number nines, they’re all getting off to good starts.”

Wilson about to have brilliant season
Wilson is an excellent goal threat when he’s on the pitch for Eddie Howe’s men and has shown that when he’s been available. The former Bournemouth man has scored 21 times in 47 games for Newcastle since making the switch from the south coast.
But the 30-year-old only managed 18 appearances in the Premier League last season due to hamstring injuries but still got on the scoresheet eight times.
Newcastle did sign Chris Wood back in January as the former Burnley man looks to compete with Wilson for a starting place in Howe’s side. But if Wilson manages to avoid injuries this campaign, he will be key for the Magpies this season.
