West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta.

Information regarding the Hammers’ pursuit of the Brazil international has been coming in thick and fast on Friday.

Less than 24 hours ago, it looked as though things were not heading in the right direction.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth initially claimed that he had been told the deal was off.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show on Thursday evening, he said: “Now this is just from one source.

“I’ve still got to get this backed up, I’m told by one source that the deal looks like it might be off now.

“I was told that West Ham had made a last and final offer and it has not been accepted by Lyon.

“So as it stands, on one hand I’m told that talks are ongoing between the two clubs over trying to get a deal done.

“But… this has literally just come to me just now, I’ve seen a text and it says ‘deal off’.”

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano said there was no full agreement between West Ham and Lyon after a new round of talks.

Then, just after 10pm BST, Romano tweeted saying West Ham had a “new direct call” with Lyon over Paqueta.

He described it as “work in progress” and, while dealing with OL is “never easy”, they are “trying to get it done”.

On Friday morning, Romano claimed there was a new round of talks between West Ham and Lyon.

He added that Paqueta had agreed terms and that Thursday night’s conversation was “positive”.

And in the space of a few hours on Friday afternoon came a deluge of Paqueta updates:

A crazy 24 hours indeed. And maybe over the next 24 hours (or even sooner), the all-important official announcement could potentially come.
