Antonio Conte says he’s going to put Clement Lenglet in Tottenham Hotspur’s starting line-up very soon.

Speaking to the club’s official website after his side’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United last night, Conte says that Lenglet deserves a chance to play.

The 27-year-old is yet to start a game for Spurs and has been limited to just one substitute appearance so far this season.

Lenglet joined the club earlier this summer as he made the loan switch from Barcelona but is yet to break into the side.

Conte’s men have got off to a decent start so far this season and remain unbeaten after drawing at the London Stadium.

But it seems that Lenglet could get his chance to impress his new boss in the coming weeks.

Conte to put Lenglet in starting line-up soon

Conte told Tottenham’s website that he’s going to put Lenglet in the starting line-up very soon.

“We have to try, for sure, in the next games to exploit also the new players because in this period, in the first part of the season, only Richy [Richarlison] and [Yves] Bissouma have played games,” he said.

“We have Lenglet who is another good player who deserves to have space to play games.”

Bissouma was handed his first start by the Italian against the Hammers last night. Richarlison has also been limited to substitute appearances but has made a decent impact when coming off the bench.

The Italian is probably hesitant to change anything drastically as his side are yet to lose during the current Premier League campaign.

But last night, Spurs looked desperate for a ball-playing centre back such as Lenglet.

Conte’s men often found it difficult to play out successfully from the back and the Barca man boasts a brilliant passing range.

Spurs are currently without Cristian Romero as well, who is arguably their best ball-playing defender.

Conte’s system relies heavily on his defenders being able to play out successfully from the back and Spurs seem to have struggled with this in their opening five games.

Lenglet could go a long way to solving this issue as the France international is comfortable on the ball.

Tottenham have now got games coming thick and fast with their Champions League campaign getting underway next week. So Lenglet may get a chance sooner rather than later as Conte will be forced to rotate his squad.
