Matt Turner isn’t having the best of seasons for Nottingham Forest.
The American goalkeeper has made a few noteworthy mistakes as of late, and the Reds are reportedly in the market for a new number one before the end of this transfer window.
Just six months after arriving on Trentside, Turner may be about to lose his place in the team, and speaking on the Call it What You Want Podcast, former USA striker, Charlie Davies, has questioned Turner’s decision to ever join Forest.
The pundit says that, in hindsight, leaving Arsenal for Forest was a bad move, claiming that he would’ve been better off staying at the Emirates where the standards were higher and he was more protected by his defence.

Turner should’ve stayed at Arsenal
Davies shared his verdict on the £6m man.
“Let’s just say in hindsight this wasn’t a great move to leave Arsenal for Nottingham Forest. In hindsight to look back and say you’re leaving a team in the Champions League and competing for the Premier League title to go to Forest where the quality drops drastically, and you’re going to be blamed for a lot of issues because your backline isn’t strong,” Davies said.
Needed to leave
It’s all well and good to say that a goalkeeper would’ve better off staying at a better team such as Arsenal rather than moving to a relegation-threatened side like Forest, but let’s be real, Turner would not be playing at the moment at Arsenal.
Last season was fine as he was playing in the cups and in the Europa League, but now that David Raya has arrived at the Emirates, Turner would’ve been relegated to third-choice if he’d stuck around, and that’s not doing anyone any good.
Turner probably would’ve been better off joining a more defensively stable team than Forest, but staying at Arsenal would’ve been the wrong move this summer.
