'In everything': Alan Shearer says £16m Everton player is absolutely 'immense'
Everton full-back Nathan Patterson has made Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week.
The 20-year-old delivered a superb performance for Frank Lampard’s Toffees in the Merseyside derby.
Despite it being a 0-0 draw, Saturday’s early kickoff was an entertaining and fiery clash befitting a local derby.
Everton put in an impressive performance and could’ve easily won the game.
Conor Coady saw a goal ruled out for offside by VAR, while Neal Maupay missed a glaring opportunity.
Jordan Pickford put in an incredible performance in between the Everton sticks, winning the Man of the Match award.
However, he wasn’t the only Toffees player to shine – there were quite a few who emerged with significant credit.
One of these was Patterson, who made Shearer’s Team of the Week alongside Pickford.
“Immense all game in everything he did, both when defending and going forward,” Shearer wrote on the PL website.
‘Fared well in all departments’
Numerous media outlets also hailed Patterson for his derby-day efforts.
“It’s not an easy task to mark Luis Diaz for 90 minutes but Patterson stood up to the task extremely well,” they wrote.
“He showed a lot of the needle that’s needed for a match such as this, but perhaps his final ball was just a little off in attacking areas.”
Liverpool World also gave Patterson an 8 out of 10 rating.
“Defensively sound against Diaz in the opening 45 minutes,” they wrote.
“Brilliant trickery and pass started the move off for Everton to hit the post.
“Had a deflected effort in the second period and can be proud of another sound performance.”
And 90Min went with 7 out of 10, adding: “Aggressive from the off, trying to unsettle Nunez and Diaz, and fared well in all departments.
“Could be a gem of a find from Rangers.”
