‘In all honesty’… BBC pundit says £67m Liverpool player wouldn’t have started on Sunday even if he was fit

Liverpool face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, and they have a number of selection issues heading into this game.

The Merseyside club have a number of players who are injured heading into this game, so Jurgen Klopp may have to put together something of a makeshift XI.

Alisson Becker is one player who will miss this game, and speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Paul Robinson has been discussing Alisson’s absence.

Robinson says that Alisson won’t be missed all that much by Liverpool, claiming that the Brazilian wouldn’t play even if he was it as Caoimhin Kelleher has played every round so far.

Alisson wouldn’t have played

Robinson spoke about the £67m man.

“I think in all honesty he’d have played anyway. He’s played in this competition, regardless of if Alisson was fit or not I don’t think Klopp would’ve put Alisson in, I think Kelleher would’ve played anyway. He’s played all the earlier rounds. I think the thing for Liverpool is the number of injuries Liverpool have, 10 players injured who could potentially push for a start in the lineup,” Robinson said.

Kelleher would’ve started

Liverpool will be missing a number of key players through injury on Sunday, but Alisson’s absence really won’t be felt that much.

Kelleher is Liverpool’s cup goalkeeper, whether that’s a final or the first round, he starts these games.

Kelleher deserves the chance at glory once again, and as he showed in this exact competition two years ago, he’s more than capable of delivering on the biggest of stages.

Of course, Liverpool will be hoping Alisson is back sooner rather than later, but if there’s any game where he won’t be missed too much, this is it.
