Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte spoke to the club’s official website after the win over Everton and praised youngster Bryan Gil for ‘improving’ over the past three months.

Gil is yet to start a game under Conte this season but has been handed minutes in Spurs’ last two Champions League games against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 21-year-old put in a promising display from the bench on Wednesday as he won a penalty for Spurs after a mazy run into Frankfurt’s box.

The Spaniard wasn’t used in Spurs’ 2-0 win over Everton last night but Conte praised the winger after the game.

Conte praises Gil

There was cause for concern at Spurs last night after Richarlison was forced off by a calf injury against the Toffees.

The Brazilian could be set for a spell on the sidelines, with Dejan Kulusevski also recovering from an injury he suffered while on international duty with Sweden.

And when Conte was asked about Richarlison’s injury, he praised Gil for his development so far this season.

“He [Richarlison] was a bit disappointed and a bit frustrated for his injury,” Conte told Spurs Play

“He has a problem in his calf. Now tomorrow or today he has to make an MRI to understand the problem.

“I hope it’s not serious because we already have [Dejan] Kulusevski who is out for injury. Now, we have to push Lucas Moura to get good physical condition.

“Also we have Gil, who is improving a lot in the last three months.”

Gil joined Spurs in the 2021 summer window but has struggled to break into Conte’s side.

The youngster was sent on loan to Valencia during the second-half of last season and looked set to rejoin Gennaro Gattuso’s side.

But Conte admitted in September that he blocked the move due to the club not bringing in a replacement.

Gil is currently a squad option for the Italian but he could soon get his chance to impress with Richarlison and Kulusevski sidelined.

The youngster will be hoping his promising display against Frankfurt will lead to more opportunities under Conte before the World Cup gets underway next month.
