Improved form of Grezda and Middleton could save Gerrard millions in January market

Steven Gerrard no doubt has one eye on the January transfer window, which he will hope to use to recruit players who can help him hunt down Celtic in the burgeoning Scottish Premiership title chase.

This weekend saw the two-horse race many might have expected to see before the season take a step closer and Rangers could actually move top of the table if they win their game in hand on Hearts and Brendan Rodgers’ side lose theirs.

At the forefront of his mind will be adding more creativity and variety to an attack that has laboured at times this season, which could well prove to be costly business; especially in the frantic mid-season window.

Which is why the emergence of Glenn Middleton and Eros Grezda as genuine first-team creative options is such a boost.

The duo performed impressively in the weekend demolition of Motherwell and if they can both continually be relied upon to provide goals and assists, it may dissuade Gerrard from dipping into the January market for an upgrade.

That in turn could save the club millions of pounds which can be used on other areas of the squad or saved for the summer market, when there is generally more value to be found.
