Impressive summer for Jonathan Kodjia good news for Aston Villa regardless of future

Jonathan Kodjia is having a good summer so far, which can only be good news for Aston Villa.

The Ivory Coast star scored in his nation’s opening game at this summer’s AFCON. It proved the winning goal against South Africa. This came days after he scored in a 4-1 friendly win against Zambia.

Clearly, Kodjia is enjoying being back out on the pitch regularly.

The 29-year-old struggled at times after Dean Smith’s arrival at Aston Villa. The £11 million striker (BBC Sport) sat on the bench as Aston Villa defeated Derby County in the play-off final.

So it has been suggested by some, that Kodjia could be out the exit door this summer.

So either way, continued good form at the AFCON is good news for Aston Villa.

The best possible scenario is Kodjia’s reignites his Aston Villa career. On his good days, he can be a ruthless and exciting attacker. If success with The Elephants sparks that sort of form in the Premier League for Aston Villa it will be like a new signing.

However, if Smith has decided Kodjia has to go to balance the books, such form in Egypt can allow Aston Villa to recoup as much of the £11 million fee as possible for the attacker.

Regardless of whether Kodjia is in or out of Aston Villa’s plans this season, success with his nation this summer is good news.
