'Immense': £70m star now raves about Liverpool player after Reds reportedly make move sign him
Liverpool linked Pedri have raved about Thiago in the Liverpool Echo after being linked with a move to Anfield this summer.
The Daily Mirror claimed that Liverpool had made contact to sign the Barcelona midfielder back in April.
Pedri has a £70 million release clause currently built into his contract, which has offered Liverpool some hope of being able to sign him.
The 18-year-old has shone at Euro 2020, where he has actually kept Thiago out of Spain’s starting line-up.
But when asked about Thiago’s quality, Pedri only had kind words about the Reds midfielder.
“I’m very lucky to play alongside Thiago,” he said. “It’s wonderful to see him in training and wonderful to play with him.
“He has immense quality and I think everybody has seen that on television.
“In addition to Thiago, I have some fantastic team-mates right through the squad and I try to learn from all of them.”
Not Thiago’s dream campaign
Thiago’s lack of starts at Euro 2020, rather sums up the way his season has gone at club level.
While the Liverpool man did show signs of promise towards the end of the campaign, he didn’t have the impact at Anfield many were expecting.
That was partly down to what was a turbulent start for the veteran midfielder on Merseyside.
Thiago suffered badly with injury and it appeared to take him a while to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.
Whether Thiago will have a new teammate in Pedri next season currently looks doubtful, despite Liverpool’s interest, due to the fees involved.
But after the teenager’s brilliant tournament, the links are sure to excite plenty of Reds supporters.
