Glasgow Rangers youngster Nathan Patterson has been compared to Ibrox cult hero Alan Hutton and deemed a potential star of the future by Peter Lovenkrands, in conversation with the Daily Record.
The 18-year-old Rangers academy right-back enjoyed a bright start to the decade, beginning with his exploits during the winter break training camp in Dubai.
Patterson put in an impressive display for the Ibrox side in the mid-season friendly against Lokomotiv Tashkent, and followed that up with a superb showing against Stranraer in the Scottish Cup fourth round.

The youngster also played a major role in Rangers Colts’ run to the Scottish Challenge Cup semi-finals, captaining Graeme Murty’s charges in the final four, and was in three Scottish Premiership matchday squads prior to the league being curtailed.
With preparations for 2020-21 now under way, Steven Gerrard gave Patterson game time in Lyon as Rangers won the pre-season Veolia Trophy, and former Rangers coach Lovenkrands is excited about what he can bring to the team this season and beyond.
“Nathan has so much talent,” Lovenkrands told the Daily Record. “With his shape and build he has a fantastic stature too.
“He’s tall, athletic, he has an engine that will take him up and down the pitch.
“Obviously he has still to learn position wise and how he uses his body and physicality but his attitude again is spot on.
“I have said before that I look at him like Alan Hutton – he has the same style of play, the same build, the same athletic ability to get up and down at speed.
“I’m still good friends with Alan and I always say to him ‘he’s just like you’. I’m very excited about Nathan. He could be very, very good.”
TBR View:
With Matt Polster having left Rangers this summer, Patterson is now second in line behind Ibrox captain James Tavernier, and unless Gerrard bolsters his ranks further, there’s a very good chance we’ll see him in action this term.
Bears have been raving about Patterson in recent months and, with such a crucial campaign coming up, it could be the making of the next Rangers star.
