Tottenham Hotspur have “touched base” over Leicester City’s James Maddison, according to Dean Jones.

Spurs have been linked with the England international for a long time now.

Speculation has arisen again, though Alasdair Gold has claimed that Tottenham insiders have played it down.

“Lots of people asking about James Maddison,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“Interestingly, Spurs really playing that down.

“Anyone we asked out on the tour about Maddison really played that down and said no, nothing happening there.”

However, Jones has claimed that Tottenham have at least made some enquiries about the Leicester star.

“I’m told Spurs have touched base over Maddison,” the transfer insider wrote on GiveMeSport.

“And a deal would not be impossible but it would cost them a lot of money.

“Probably more than they would want to spend. But you never know, the door isn’t closed.”

Tottenham were reportedly after Christian Eriksen earlier this summer, but Manchester United won the race.

And Giovani Lo Celso’s future at Spurs appears uncertain amid links with the likes of Villarreal and Fiorentina.

So there’s scope for Antonio Conte to potentially bring in a creative midfielder.

And Maddison would be a great shout, as he’s a world-class, Premier League-proven player in the peak of his career.

The £110,000-a-week attacker was back to his best last season, registering 18 goals and provide 12 assists in all competitions.

Brendan Rodgers said Maddison was ‘sensational‘ as Leicester came eighth and reached the Conference League semi-finals.

Spurs have been doing some impressive summer business and Maddison would be a real cherry on top.
