'I'm told': Romano has fresh update on Diaz's move to Tottenham after 'face-to-face' meeting held
Tottenham Hotspur look set to have a busy end to the January transfer window amid links with Luis Diaz.
On Tuesday afternoon, football.london reported that Spurs had enquired about the availability of the Porto winger.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided a further update on Spurs’ interest in the Colombia international.
Speaking on Matt Hayes – Tottenham Blog’s YouTube channel, the transfer guru revealed how “serious” Spurs are to sign him.
However, Romano acknowledges that things are “still complicated” due to the two clubs being apart in terms of valuation.
“They’ve submitted this proposal, it was a face-by-face meeting so tottenham were really serious on this one,” said Romano.
“I’m told that at the moment from Porto, still no intention to accept 35-40m for Luis Diaz – they want way more than this.
“No less than 65m to start negotiations so it’s still complicated.
“I’m told the player’s not a big problem for this deal, the player dreams of the Premier League.
“So let’s see if Tottenham will decide to try with another bid in the coming hours or if they’ll move on.
“But for sure he’s a target, he’s a player Fabio Paratici appreciates.”
Can Spurs beat Liverpool to “poetic” player?
Diaz has made a name for himself as one of the hottest talents in Europe over the past 12 months.
Earlier this month, Porto assistant manager Vitor Bruno told Expresso: “Luis has an immense talent.
“The way he communicates with the ball is almost poetic.”
Liverpool have also reportedly been eyeing Diaz.
But now it looks as though Spurs have stolen a march on a player Carlos Queiroz compared to Luis Figo.
If Tottenham were able to land him, it would be a major coup for the N17 outfit.
