‘I’m told it’s true’: Journalist shares what ‘quite a few people’ have told him about Antonio Conte at Tottenham recently

Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas says Antonio Conte is happy with Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer business this summer.

Thomas said on YouTube that he has spoken to sources close to Conte who have said his private views marry up with what he has said in the press.

Spurs have done their transfer business far earlier than we are accustomed to seeing them do it in previous seasons.

But there is always the question over who is a ‘club’ signing and who is a ‘Conte’ signing, and how many of each Spurs have landed this summer.

Conte gives verdict on Tottenham transfer business

Speaking about whether Conte is happy with the summer so far, he said: “Well I know so. He said so in press conferences [that he’s happy] and to a certain extent you think he has to say that, he wants to put out a positive message.

“But behind the scenes I’m told it is true. I’ve met quite a few people in the last couple of weeks who have met Antonio Conte – they have had dinner with him, had drinks with him – and they’ve said to me he’s happy with what they’ve got.

“If they can do some more and swap Japhet Tanganga and Bryan Gil for better players in their eyes, he will go from being happy to being very happy if they manage to do that.”

Tottenham have had a strong start to the season and it is clear that there is still more to come from some of their new faces too.

The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool look wobbly, and that could create opportunities for Spurs to push on in the early part of the season.

And the fact that Conte is telling those close to him how happy he is is a very good sign because he has been prone to the odd threat of walking out.
