Duncan Castles claimed on the Transfer Window Podcast yesterday that Antonio Conte was desperate to get Dele Alli out of Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Alli was once Tottenham and England’s golden boy. He was absolutely magnificent when he first burst onto the scene. Mauricio Pochettino made him look like an absolutely incredible player, but since the Argentine’s departure, the 25-year-old’s form has been shocking.
The Englishman has looked nothing like his previous self over the last two seasons. Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and now Conte all tried to get the best out of him, but nothing changed.
As a result, the Spurs boss had decided that he would never play him again and Alli was pushed out.
Antonio Conte wanted Dele Alli out of Tottenham
Castles and Ian McGarry discussed the January transfer window on the latest episode of their podcast.
They shed some light on things that weren’t common knowledge – like how Conte’s ‘absolute priority’ last month was to get Alli out of the club.
Castles said: “I think getting rid of Alli was an intelligent move or a necessary move.
“I’m told Conte would not have used him again. He wanted him out as an absolute priority.”

TBR View:
It was clear for everyone that Alli needed to leave Tottenham.
The Englishman has the quality to become one of the best players in the Premier League. He has proven that already and a change of scenery could really benefit him in the coming months.
Everton are a fantastic side for Alli and under a manager like Frank Lampard, who knows a thing or two about being a world-class attacking midfielder, the 25-year-old could become the fantastic player he once was.
It will be interesting to see how Alli fares at Everton. Spurs will host the Toffees in the Premier League in a little over a month’s time and it won’t be a surprise to see the Englishman make a statement then.
