‘I’m thinking’… Joe Cole says Chelsea should now sign midfielder Tottenham sold for £30m

Chelsea have a really strange squad composition right now.

The Blues have spent the past 18 months signing some of Europe’s most talented young players, but the reality is that their squad may simply be too young as things stand.

Indeed, there’s a real leadership and experience vacuum in this side right now, and they may need to bring in a few more experienced heads to nurture this young crop.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Joe Cole has been discussing what Chelsea should do this summer, and he’s well on board with the idea of signing some older players.

Cole suggested a couple of potential signings for Chelsea, naming Luka Modric as one player he’d like to see back in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea should sign Luka Modric

Cole spoke about the Croatian.

“I’d be looking to bring in some experienced players to set the tone. I’m thinking is Luka Modric out of contract? Does he want to play in the Premier League for one more year. How much has he helped Camavinga, Tchouameni, Valverde? Toni Kroos is 34, does he want to test himself at his age and help this young squad?” Cole said.

Great move

This could be a great move that works for all parties.

As Cole says, Real Madrid have so many young midfielders coming through right now, and Modric is becoming more and more of a fringe player, while Chelsea need an experienced leader to help guide their next generation of stars.

On a one or two-year deal, this could be an absolute masterstroke.

However, with that being said, Modric won’t be short of suitors this summer if he is to leave the Spanish capital, and without Champions League football next season, it may well be difficult for the west Londoners to sign Modric.

We’ve not seen Modric in the Premier League for over 10 years after his £30m move away from Tottenham, but perhaps we could soon see him back in England.
