'I'm starting to believe': Journalist drops transfer claim over Leeds pursuit of 'complete' £34.5m player

Transfer journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United are in “open” dialogue for the signing of Charles De Ketelaere.

The Whites have been linked with the Club Brugge forward in recent weeks.

The Daily Mail recently claimed that Leeds were preparing a £26m bid for De Ketelaere.

Meanwhile, 90Min reported that the Whites were showing ‘strong interest’ towards the 21-year-old.

And Fabrizio Romano recently claimed Leeds had approached Brugge over the player.

However, the Italian also noted how other clubs were eyeing De Ketelaere, with AC Milan making a bid.

Leicester City are apparently also eyeing the Belgium international, as per 90Min.

The outlet also claimed Leicester and Leeds are both ultimately willing to pay €40m (around £34.5m) for De Ketelaere.

Jones, writing on GiveMeSport, claims Leeds and Brugge are in definite communications regarding the young prospect.

“De Ketelaere – I’ll be honest, I’m starting to believe in this one more than I was at any other point,” he wrote.

“I know that dialogue has been open here.

“I don’t think it’s a long way down the line, and I think it is also dependent on the Raphinha situation.”

De Ketelaere is one of the most highly rated young players in Europe.

He has already made over 100 appearances for Brugge and has won eight Belgium caps.

De Ketelaere burst onto the scene in 2019, making his debut against Real Madrid in the Champions League that year.

In the years that followed, he impressed against the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and RB Leipzig.

De Ketelaere also helped Brugge win three Belgian First Division titles in a row.

His tally at the club reads 120 competitive appearances, 25 goals and 20 assists.

De Ketelaere registered 18 goals and 10 assists from 49 appearances in all competitions for Brugge last term.

“His versatility is a huge asset,” Brugge icon Gert Verheyen told Het Nieuwsblad – via – of De Ketelaere.

“He is complete, with a mix of physical and technical qualities.

“If they play him as the striker for a whole season and he continues to play like this, he will score 15 goals.

“The amount that interested clubs will offer to buy him for will be unprecedented in Belgium. I really think that.”
