Moritz Jenz has revealed that he had conversations with midfielder Matt O’Riley helped convince him to sign for Celtic this summer.

The pair were well acquainted with each other, having played together in Fulham’s academy.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Jenz and O’Riley have opened up about their relationship.

O’Riley revealed that the pair had spoken several times about the German defender joining Celtic and said: “Yeah it was pretty surreal at first (hearing Jenz might sign), as I was on holiday with some friends, and I was aware of the interest from the club in Moritz.

“Then we had a couple of phone calls, as I kept asking him, ‘update me, what’s going on, is it getting closer?’ as I just wanted to know what was happening.

“Then we had some down to earth chats on my opinion of the place, I didn’t want to be biased, and oversell it, but it’s hard not to at the same time.

“And then yeah, he obviously had the conversation with the gaffer a few days later after out chat and he called me and said, ‘yeah I’m sold’ just like that.”

Jenz reveals conversations with O’Riley

It’s no surprise that O’Riley was very complimentary about Celtic to Jenz.

The former Fulham and MK Dons midfielder has hit the ground running since joining in January.

The Danish midfielder has started every game this season, after scoring three goals and registering two assists as Celtic won the Scottish Premiership last term.

His form has been so good that he’s attracted Premier League interest, with Liverpool and Arsenal both monitoring the 21-year-old.

His good friend Jenz has also started life at Celtic Park strongly.

Despite being a 6ft 3in centre-back, Jenz has already scored two league goals this season, including an extraordinary overhead kick.

Jenz’s loan deal from FC Lorient has an option to buy, and Jenz will be hoping he can do enough to convince Celtic to trigger it.

The 23-year-old German has his first opportunity to play Champions League football in his career at Celtic.

Having never won a league title either, the Bhoys could give Jenz his best chance of winning silverware yet.

Winning trophies alongside his pal O’Riley would definitely be considered a successful first season in Scotland.
