Tottenham Hotspur winger Heung-Min Son has admitted to the club’s official website that he did not expect team mate Harry Kane to hand him the ball after the team won a penalty in their opening pre-season fixture.

Spurs got their pre-season preparations underway yesterday with a 6-3 win against South Korean side Team K-League. Son and Kane both bagged two goals in what was an eventful fixture.

But before Son had managed to get his name on the scoresheet, Spurs won a penalty in the second-half. And as his partner Kane is the usual spot-kick taker for the team, the South Korean did not expect to be handed the ball at that moment.

He said: “I thought Harry was going to take it but Harry gave it to me as a present as I play at home and he wanted to make a good memory for me.

“I’m really grateful. He’s one of my best friends on and off the pitch and also a great partner.”

The 30-year-old joined the North London side back in 2016 for a fee of around £22 million (BBC) and has formed a lethal partnership with Kane ever since. The pair have combined for the most goals in Premier League history, as they hit the landmark 37 last season against Leeds.

But in that period, Kane has always been the penalty taker for Spurs and has had great success, having tucked away 28 from the spot.

Son was clearly taken aback by his partner’s gesture but he managed to step up and score. In front of his huge Korean fanbase at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Seoul, the Spurs man admitted he felt ‘big pressure’.

The golden boot winner will get another chance to score in front of fans in his homeland as the team continue their tour of South Korea this week.

Spurs take on Sevilla in what is their final game of the Coupang Play Series this Saturday. But before that, Son and his team mates will have to endure more of Antonio Conte’s gruelling training sessions as they prepare for the upcoming season.
