Gary Neville was not happy with referee Anthony Taylor when he failed to book Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga in the first half against Manchester City and called captain Hugo Lloris over instead, as per his comments live on Sky Sports.
Two last warnings?
Tanganga had already seemingly been given a last warning when he upended Raheem Sterling on the half way line, mid way through the first period.
And Neville immediately thought that the right-back was about to go into the book when he committed another foul, for the volume of offences he had made.
“There you go, that’ll be a booking,” Neville said, when Tanganga made the tackle.
However, Taylor opted to be lenient with the 22-year-old.
He went and called Lloris over to speak to Tanganga, as he tried to get the Tottenham captain to calm his player down.
But Neville wasn’t happy with the piece of officiating.
He said: “He can’t call the captain over, surely? Is he? For what?

“I’m not having that. That’s two final warnings he’s had. It’s a strange one!”
Referees have been told to be more lenient this season, and Tanganga, perhaps, benefitted from that.
Tanganga shines
After the warning the Spurs defender went on to deliver a wonderful performance too.
Tanganga was aggressive in the tackle and he dealt with the likes of Sterling and Jack Grealish brilliantly in what was a rare start.
Tottenham’s backline held firm throughout the match and by full time they were well deserving of their 1-0 victory over last season’s champions.
