Newcastle United enjoyed a successful January transfer window, bringing in five players.

However, there are a number of countries whose windows are still open.

This means clubs in those nations could potentially make moves for Magpies players.

Isaac Hayden is one of those players apparently being eyed by one such team.

The 26-year-old has been left out of Newcastle’s Premier League squad for the second half of the season.

Hayden is currently on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery before the turn of the year.

The Newcastle website cited the player’s long-term injury as the reason why he wasn’t named in the squad.

Hayden took to social media to admit he’s ‘bitterly disappointed’ to have been overlooked.

The midfielder says he’ll be ‘working harder than ever’ to ensure he is back in Eddie Howe’s plans next term.

Now, Dean Jones has claimed that Hayden’s situation has alerted other clubs.

The transfer insider claims there’s a club in Russia eyeing Hayden.

Russia’s transfer window doesn’t shut until 22 February, so Newcastle could theoretically still strike a deal.

“I’m hearing that Isaac Hayden actually has some interest from a club in Russia,” Jones wrote on GiveMeSport.

“So that could be one to look out for.”

“Superb job”

Hayden has clocked up 171 competitive appearances for Newcastle and was a regular in the XI prior to his injury.

He has given plenty to the Magpies over the years, and shone as a makeshift centre-back last season.

Indeed, Alan Shearer named Hayden in his Premier League Team of the Week for his display against Southampton in February 2021.

Shearer wrote: “The midfielder is doing a superb job filling in in an unfamiliar role at centre-half.”

Hayden is a very underrated player and it would be a shame to see him leave this month.

Obviously, whether Newcastle would accept any offer for him is a different matter.
