Jermaine Beckford spoke on Sky Sports News today and said he’s worried about what Frank Lampard might do with Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Calvert-Lewin has just made a comeback from a knee injury that ruled him out for the beginning of the season. The 25-year-old has made two substitute appearances against Manchester United and Tottenham over the past week.
Lampard has eased him back into action so far as the striker has only played a total of 38 minutes since his return.
But Beckford says he’s concerned that Lampard could be tempted to start playing Calvert-Lewin too frequently.

Sky pundit worried about Calvert-Lewin
Speaking on Sky Sports News today, Beckford said that he hopes Lampard isn’t tempted to rush the England striker back into playing 90 minutes before he is ready.
“It’s been no secret the injury issues Dominic’s had. When he’s been fit and firing he’s been a huge handful for opposition defenders,” he said.
“But he’s been a great outlet ball as well. He’s been able to score goals out of nothing. He offers that physical threat.
“He’s a selfless runner, he’ll keep on going and put himself about, make challenges that as a centre forward you probably shouldn’t be making. That’s what he’s there for, he’s there to be a nuisance to defenders.
“I’m concerned that from a striker’s perspective, I don’t want to see him play too many minutes too soon because I don’t want him to miss too many more games.
“Similar to Callum Wilson, Patrick Bamford, if they play too many minutes too soon, will they end up getting a little bit of an injury which is going to set them back again? I hope not.”

The former Leeds United striker did add that Lampard has done well to resist the temptation so far.
He added: “Which is one of the reasons why Frank Lampard, Jesse Marsch and Eddie Howe are slowly but surely implementing them back into the game, giving them a few minutes and getting them to build their natural match fitness slowly but surely.”
Lampard boosted his forward options over the summer after the signing of Neal Maupay from Brighton. The Frenchman has settled in well at Goodison Park but is yet to prove he can provide as much of a threat in-front of goal as Calvert-Lewin.
The Toffees have struggled to find the back of the net so far this season as they’ve only managed eight goals in ten games.
Lampard will undoubtedly be keen to get Calvert-Lewin back into his side as soon as he is ready. But for now, Maupay is allowing Lampard to ease the striker back into first-team action.
