Illan Meslier raves about Leeds teammate Ben White

Illan Meslier has told Goal that Leeds United teammate Ben White is an unbelievable player with the centre-back continuing to attract plaudits at Elland Road.

White has been a revelation since arriving at Leeds. It is now easy to forget that many fans had their concerns when the club sold Pontus Jansson with White looking set to be Liam Cooper’s partner at centre-back.

But plenty of supporters now seem convinced that White is a better player than the Swedish cult-hero. The Brighton loanee has started every game and arguably been a standout performer on almost every occasion.

And fellow loanee Meslier suggested that he has been blown away by the impact that the defender has made since arriving at Leeds.

“He’s unbelievable. He’s off to a good start to the season,” he told Goal.

“Last year I think he was in League One. This is his first year in the Championship and he’s shown he’s at that level. Brighton has a very good player on its hands.”

It is already becoming incredibly difficult to see White staying at Leeds for any longer than a year. Promotion is surely a must if Marcelo Bielsa’s side hope to have a chance of a future deal. And even then, they will surely need to make White one of their most expensive signings ever.

But if Leeds are promoted, then it would be no surprise to see the youngster at the top of the club’s shopping list. As Meslier notes, he had not played in the Championship before this season. So it would be foolish to doubt whether he could play at the highest level.
