Illan Meslier has dropped his biggest hint yet that he could be about to join Leeds United on a permanent basis, after he retweeted a story that claimed the Whites would sign the French goalkeeper if they gained promotion to the Premier League.
Meslier, 20, joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Lorient at the beginning of the season after Leeds needed a replacement for Bailey Peacock-Farrell. A France Under-20 international, 6ft 5in Meslier was pretty much an unknown.
He finally made his debut for the club in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup, impressing on the Emirates turf. With Kiko Casilla banned for eight matches, Meslier replaced him for the first two of those eight – before the global health crisis struck.
The Telegraph claimed Leeds would sign Meslier if they go up, with a £5million clause included in his loan deal. French website Foot Mercato relayed the news and Meslier has dropped a hint at a permanent move, by retweeting Foot Mercato’s piece.

TBR’s view – Meslier is a bargain, and is already a favourite among fans
Many Leeds players have been asked who the funniest is in the current squad, and the surprise answer if youngster Meslier. Seemingly an old head on young shoulders, the goalkeeper has been a top addition on and off the pitch.
Responding to supporters on social media but also starring in his three appearances – keeping two clean sheets and only conceding once to Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson, Meslier has been a top find, and he must be signed.
