Newcastle United are considering a move for Todd Cantwell, according to Sky Sports.

The Magpies are in need of bolstering their ranks in the January transfer window.

Newcastle have a sizeable transfer kitty in wake of their long-awaited takeover.

However, the Magpies are also fighting for their Premier League lives and have depleted ranks.

Therefore, Newcastle could do with several high-calibre players, ideally with top-flight experience.

As well as the Magpies, another Premier League club is reportedly eyeing the Norwich midfielder.

Sky Sports claim the Canaries want between £15million and £20million for Cantwell.

The playmaker has started just two Premier League games under head coach Dean Smith.

He has made eight appearances in the league this season, but failed to register a goal or an assist.

Cantwell’s contract is up in the summer, but Norwich have the option to extend for a further year.

Nonetheless, some fans seem eager for Newcastle to cash in on him:

Last year, Dean Ashton said of Cantwell: “He was incredible (when I first saw him).

“The way he was drifting past players. His speed of thought and his awareness.

“He’s just a wonderful player.”
