If West Ham get over the line this season by finishing in the Champions League positions, they could have their most exciting transfer window in a long time.

Whether the Hammers hierarchy would be prepared to spend big if they finish in the top four remains to be seen, but the offer of Champions League football should at least see top players turn their heads towards the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ side are fifth in the league standings right now. However, with favourable fixtures, they’ve still got five games left to try cut the five-point deficit to fourth-placed Chelsea.

West Ham’s squad does need some improving going into next year, regardless of if they qualify for Europe or not.

They are crying out for another centre-forward, plus they could perhaps do with another option at left-back.

Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku are two solid options for the full-back position, albeit the former shines when he moves to a centre-back role in a back three.

If West Ham can dangle the carrot of Champions League football at players next season, manager Moyes should consider targeting Robin Gosens at Italian top-flight club Atalanta.

Gosens, 26, is a German defender who’s currently being linked with Premier League rivals Leicester City.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Leicester have stepped up a potential move to sign the left wing-back in a deal worth £21.7million plus bonuses this summer.

However, the report details the player wants to make sure third-placed Leicester are guaranteed Champions League football first before agreeing to any kind of deal.

Gosens has enjoyed a brilliant season over in Italy this year season 10 goals and setting up eight assists in 38 games across all competitions.

The four-time capped Germany international is a specialist in a left wing-back position, which is why he could slot in superbly to the Hammers system.

West Ham can start throwing their name into the hat for more established players if they can offer Champions League football, and Gosens for a potential bargain price would be a great place to start.
