If reports are true, Tottenham could make a signing in January which would be massive for them - TBR View

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Sporting wing-back Pedro Porro today and if reports are true, it would be a massive signing for them.

Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias reports that ‘half of Europe’ are now monitoring Porro after an impressive start to his Sporting career.

One of these sides is Tottenham, along with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The outlet notes that it would take something close to his £39 million release clause for the Portuguese outfit to let him leave, as transcribed by SportWitness

And in our view, Spurs should push the boat out to sign him in January.

Porro signing would be massive for Tottenham

Spurs’ struggles at right wing-back have been evident this season, with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty failing to impress.

Djed Spence was brought in from Middlesbrough over the summer but it’s clear that Conte doesn’t feel he is ready to start for Spurs just yet.

Porro faced Conte’s men twice in the Champions League this season and put in eye-catching displays on both occasions.

The Spanish wing-back showed that he is a combative defender, while providing a threat at the other end of the pitch.

Spurs’ right wing-back options seem to be lacking this blend at the moment, with Emerson in particular struggling to make an impact in the final third.

Sporting signed Porro up on a permanent deal from Manchester City over the summer for a fee worth around £7 million (Fabrizio Romano). The defender enjoyed a successful loan spell in Portugal the season before and now he already has top clubs monitoring his progress.

Tottenham will probably be regretful that they didn’t spot his talent beforehand as he was available at such a bargain price. But they should do everything within their power to bring the Spaniard to the club in January.

After watching him first-hand, Antonio Conte would have undoubtedly been impressed by his displays against his side.

Porro has already provided five assists in just 17 appearances from wing-back this season, while Emerson has managed just one.

Doherty hasn’t registered a single goal involvement this season and Spence hasn’t played enough minutes to make a real impact.

It’s a clear weakness to Conte’s system at the moment, with his right wing-back options failing to produce.

Ivan Perisic has already provided seven assists from the opposite flank and Ryan Sessegnon has managed to get on the scoresheet twice.

It’s an area of the pitch that clearly needs significant attention and if Porro becomes available, Spurs should be moving to secure what could be a massive signing for them.
