If reports are true, Spurs could soon sign 'extraordinary' player who has 'something of Gattuso' - TBR View
Tottenham Hotspur struck gold in the January transfer window and have done well in the summer market so far.
Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski joined at the start of the year and both shone for Spurs.
And now, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster – both talented, experienced players – will be at Antonio Conte’s disposal.
With Tottenham qualifying for the Champions League, it’s no surprise to see the club bolster their ranks.
And with ENIC injecting £150million into Spurs, there could be some exciting signings.
“Paratici is a big fan”
On Friday, football.london published Alasdair Gold’s extensive Tottenham transfer plan article.
Gold claimed Spurs could look at bringing in a “forward-thinking” option in midfield.
And apparently, Tottenham could look to rekindle their interest in Juventus ace Weston McKennie.
“Paratici is a big fan of 23-year-old USA international Weston McKennie, who he took to Juventus,” wrote Gold.
“Football.london revealed back in January that Spurs’ managing director of football had held talks with the players’ representatives about a potential move in that window.
“But it was deemed too difficult with the Italian club unwilling to part company with him at that point.
“The American is believed to have been above Bentancur on Spurs’ target list for new recruits that month.
“Paratici is expected to make another approach for the versatile Texan, who was a regular starter for Juventus until a metatarsal injury all but ended his campaign.”
It’s great to hear how highly Paratici rates McKennie and that he could well make another approach for him.
Better still, Calciomercatoweb have claimed that Juve actually want to sell the player to Tottenham.
The Bianconeri reportedly want to sell McKennie to fund a move for Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker.
McKennie certainly looks like a target Spurs can get over the line in terms of bringing him to N17.
“Could be a new Gattuso”
McKennie has been labelled ‘extraordinary‘ in the past and is highly rated in Italy and in his home country.
American legend Alexi Lalas, who has watched a lot of the midfielder over the years, lauded his compatriot.
He said in an interview with Tuttosport: “He (McKennie) could be a new Gattuso, who (ex-Juve boss Andrea Pirlo) played with the original and knows how important it was for the balance of that Milan.
“McKennie has something of Gattuso, but also of Kante and Vidal. As they say here: Beauty and the Beast.
“Beauty and the beast both serve to win. And McKennie, as well as a conqueror of balls, also has excellent skills in the construction of the game and with his head he is always dangerous on inactive balls.”
Sounds like an ideal signing for Tottenham.
