Newcastle United have enjoyed a superb 2021 so far, bolstering their ranks and climbing up the Premier League table.

The Magpies are now 10 points clear of the drop zone and just three points away from the top half of the table.

With Newcastle nearly over the line in terms of Premier League survival, the board can cast an eye on the summer transfer window.

It should be an exciting one for the Magpies, who’ll be eager to take the next step in terms of building a world-class squad.

One transfer report that has been doing the rounds in recent days would be incredibly exciting if true.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle are lining up a swoop for Brentford and Denmark star Christian Eriksen.

The 30-year-old’s return to the Premier League has been one of the feelgood stories of the season.

Eriksen signed a short-term deal to the end of the season when he agreed to join Brentford in January.

Now, the Dane is playing at the top level and showing his class once again for club and country.

And Eriksen’s performances have alerted clubs across the continent to his availability this summer.

Bees boss Thomas Frank has openly confirmed his desire to re-sign him on a more permanent basis.

However, they will find it hard to hold on to him amid reported interest from numerous clubs.

Newcastle plan to beat Tottenham, Everton and West Ham to Eriksen

Newcastle officials are reportedly growing increasingly hopeful of being able to beat their rivals to Eriksen’s signature.

Indeed, the Northern Echo has outlined the Magpies hierarchy’s plans to try and sign the talented midfielder.

Newcastle will reportedly offer Eriksen a significant increase on his current wages at Brentford.

They will also be willing to match or better any other offer Eriksen receives from his other Premier League suitors.

And Amanda Staveley will apparently attempt to sell a vision of a club with achievable ambitions of challenging for a place in the top six in the next couple of seasons if she gets an opportunity to speak directly to Eriksen’s camp.

Newcastle’s hierarchy are mindful of the need to adhere to the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Therefore, the opportunity to sign a player of Eriksen’s calibre on a free transfer would be especially appealing.

The Newcastle board has pulled off several masterstrokes in recent months.

And Eriksen to St James’ Park would be another huge signing and major signal of intent.
