If Liverpool sign Ryan Fraser, surely it is curtains for a player signed for £13m

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing AFC Bournemouth speed machine Ryan Fraser in the January transfer window as he enters the final months of his contract – but surely signing the Scottish star could see another leave.

Fraser, 25, cropped up on the shortlist of England’s biggest clubs in the summer, with Arsenal linked with a move for the £27million-rated winger (Mirror). He scored eight goals and turned provider a further 15 assists for Bournemouth.

This season he has not recaptured that form, but he still remains a potential buy in January. Indeed, his contract expires at the end of the season – meaning January represents the last chance Bournemouth can bring in some cash for Fraser.

Liverpool had Mo Salah sidelined during the 1-1 draw against Manchester United, forcing Jurgen Klopp to start centre-forward Divock Origi out wide. Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are preferred in midfield.

Meanwhile, Xherdan Shaqiri is suffering from a calf injury and has managed just 25 minutes of action all season – half of which came in the Community Shield. The 28-year-old, signed for £13m (Guardian) is expected to return at the end of the month.

Shaqiri was a crucial part of the Liverpool side last season, coming off the bench and featuring in the Cups from the off to give the likes of Salah and Mane some well-deserved rest. But injury has seen him slip down the pecking order.

Now, with Fraser supposedly in advanced talks to join Liverpool – as per TalkSPORT – the signs do not look good for Switzerland international Shaqiri. He has a contract at Anfield until the summer of 2023, worth £80,000 a week (Spotrac).

If Liverpool do complete a move for Fraser, it is likely the Scot will be used ahead of Shaqiri purely because he is a new signing. With Shaqiri’s game time already thin as he acts as cover for Mane and Salah, surely he may have to leave if Fraser takes over.
