‘If he’s good enough for Bielsa…’: Some Leeds fans react to reported interest in £2.3m international
A number of Leeds United fans have given their thoughts on the report claiming the Whites are interested in Iceland international Hjortur Hermannsson.
The 25-year-old centre-back, who currently plays for Danish side Brondby, began his career at icelandic outfit Fylkir before moving to the academy of Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven in 2012.
While Hermannsson got plenty of appearances under his belt for PSV’s age-group teams, he didn’t manage to break into the first team, and after a loan spell at Goteborg came to an end, he joined Brondby in 2016.
The Iceland international has since gone on to impress with the Blavitt, making 131 competitive appearances, registering three goals and an assist, and winning the 2017-18 Danish Cup.
Now, Dutch outlet Soccer News – via Leeds Live, 1/8/20, 14:29 – claims that the Whites have earmarked Hermannsson for a potential move ahead of their Premier League return.
In addition, Leeds are reported to have put 2.5m Euros (around £2.3million) aside for his services.
Hermannsson has several things going for him – he’s young, tall (6ft 3in), has done well for Brondby, and clearly must have shown talent to have made it onto PSV’s books.
And of course there are his international exploits – 14 caps for Iceland and a place in Lars Lagerback’s Euro 2016 squad for their heroic run to the quarter-finals, though he ultimately didn’t get any game time.
But what have Leeds fans made of the speculation? Below is some of the reaction on social media:
2.5m right won’t be first choice but a good singing.

We are a bit lacking in height at the back and at set peices tbh

Not a clue who he is so he’ll fit right in and become a club legend pretty quickly…

🇮🇸 Hjortur Hermannsson (25)
Made 24 appearances in the Danish league this season, making 24 tackles and 30 interceptions.
Boasts a strong 84% pass accuracy as well.
Would be the cheaper option if we were to go after him.#LUFC pic.twitter.com/SZLAmVKtHS

Bielsa likes to work with stats of players, must have pretty good stats for last season, I’m sure Bielsa has watched him enough. But does seem a strange one, would must like come in as a third choice player
