If Gueye departs, it could light a fire under struggling Schneiderlin

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye could still leave the club today, having reiterated his desire to join Paris Saint-Germain.

As reported by The Daily Mail, the tough-tackling Senegal star is still the subject of intense interest from the French champions.

The clubs are reportedly apart on his £35 million valuation and it seems touch and go whether a move will actually materialise before the 11pm deadline.

Gueye has seemingly been earmarked by PSG after they lost out in the race to sign Frenkie de Jong, who will join Barcelona in the summer (official website).

The club are also set to lose Adrien Rabiot either today or in the summer, with the Frenchman having not signed a new deal.

If Gueye does depart Goodison Park for the Parc des Princes, then it could spark a turnaround for player who has really been struggling.

A new lease of life for Schneiderlin?

Were Gueye to leave then it could mean Morgan Schneiderlin sees more game time.

The Frenchman has hardly featured this term. He has been restricted to just nine appearances across the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Gueye’s partnership with summer signing Andre Gomes has looked solid. And when the Portuguese was struggling with injury at the time of his move, Tom Davies was the man to deputise.

Schneiderlin is a defensive midfielder. He is arguably the most disciplined player after Gueye, meaning that his potential sale could work in his favour.

He could become an important player for the struggling Toffees. Gomes will need someone who is defensive-minded to play alongside him in the interest of balance.
