Everton waved goodbye to Marco Silva on Thursday night after a heavy defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby – and PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye has sent a heartfelt Instagram message to the Portuguese manager.
Silva was relieved of his duties after Everton entered the relegation zone following their 5-2 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side. The former Watford and Hull boss has been under intense pressure since his move to Goodison Park.
Indeed, despite spending plenty of money, Everton have failed to lay a glove on the top six despite having a squad more than capable of doing so. He has remained classy and dignified despite the pressure, and Gueye sent him a message.
Silva allowed Gueye to leave in the summer as PSG spent £29million (Guardian) to lure the ex-Aston Villa star to Paris. Gueye responded to Silva’s sacking by posting a message on Instagram to Silva, wishing him “all the best” in the future.
Everton have been linked with a multitude of managers following Silva’s sacking. Reports claim Shanghai SIPG gaffer Vitor Pereira is the front runner, though Carlo Ancelotti, David Moyes, Mauricio Pochettino and Eddie Howe have all been touted.
The club have appointed Duncan Ferguson as first-team manager on an interim basis until the club find a new manager, though it remains to be seen when that will be done. Ferguson is expected to lead his side out against Chelsea this weekend.
