Everton centre-forward Richarlison took the headlines for his two goals in the win over Brighton on Saturday, but midfield destroyer Idrissa Gueye was back to his menacing best.
The Toffees recorded a 3-1 home win over Brighton in the Premier League at Goodison Park, as Seamus Coleman also got on the scoresheet for the hosts.
Marco Silva’s side were impressive in the league victory and the glue that kept them all together was defensive midfielder Gueye.
The 29-year-old is a no-nonsense enforcer that operates in front of the back four and snuffed out several Brighton attacks at the weekend.
He has deep-lying playmaker Andre Gomes alongside him and the duo have a great balance of attack and defence in the centre of the park.
Gueye made interceptions for Everton that supporters have become used to, but it’s taken him some time to adapt to the new manager.
The Senegal international should only go from strength to strength now for Silva and has turned out to be a bargain singing since he joined for £7million (Mail) from Aston Villa in 2016.
Everton travel to in-form Chelsea in their next match and the Merseyside club are going to need Gueye at his defensive best at Stamford Bridge.
