Idrissa Gana Gueye must look at Yohan Cabaye example before forcing Everton exit

Everton are facing an uphill battle to keep hold of midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye. The Senegalese midfielder has been a transfer target for PSG and the French side reportedly made a £21.5 million bid for his services this week, as reported by Sky Sports.

Everton are adamant he will not be leaving but reports have now emerged that suggest he has requested a transfer. He missed the 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town last night, which did not help matters, despite Everton boss Marco Silva making it clear he had a minor injury.

Of course, the lure of playing for PSG is something hard for Gueye to resist. Not only financially, but PSG can also provide him with a chance at Champions League contention.

But Gueye should consider looking at a player who made a similar move in 2014 before making his switch.

Yohan Cabaye had been a star at Newcastle United. PSG, again on the hunt for a cost-effective midfield option, snapped up the Frenchman in a reported (BBC) £19 million deal in January 2014.

It was a big move for the player but he failed to establish himself at the club. With the likes of Marco Veratti, Blaise Matuidi and Thiago Motta ahead of him in the pecking order, the Frenchman lasted just 18 months before heading back to England with Crystal Palace.

The grass is not always greener, as Cabaye found out. Gueye should consider that before forcing an exit from Everton.
