Martin Keown has claimed that he hopes Arsenal star Bukayo Saka starts for England in the knockout rounds of Euro 2020, with a last-16 tie against rivals Germany imminent.

England now know they will play at Wembley Stadium against Germany next Tuesday evening.

Gareth Southgate’s side went unbeaten through the group stages without conceding, but the tournament is about to be cranked up.

If the Three Lions want to go all the way this summer, they’ve got to get past arch rivals Germany.

Pundit Keown has said that he wants Saka to start in the next match.

The 19-year-old Arsenal attacker was superb in the recent win over Czech Republic because of the way he was so positive on the ball.

It was his first match of the Euros against the Czechs, but his impact was so large that he’s a name being heavily discussed by supporters.

“If England stand by 4-2-3-1 in the knockout stages, then I’d like to see Saka starting again,” Keown wrote for the Daily Mail.

“He’s an outstanding attacker but also a fine defender. He’s got bags of energy and has shown his versatility in being used as a wing-back as well as a forward under Gareth Southgate.”

Will Saka get England start against Germany?

Southgate now has until next Tuesday to pick his starting XI against Germany.

Saka wasn’t on the radar for the opening two matches. However, he’s got to be in the thick of the conversation now.

The right-winger was immaculate when given the opportunity. But, in reality he’s in direct competition with Three Lions poster boy Phil Foden for a starting position on the right of the attack.

Saka has shown he’s got the bravery and ability to perform in an England shirt. Therefore, it’s such a difficult decision for Southgate to make on the Arsenal wide man next week.

A lot feel he warrants his spot in the next XI. However, the Germans will be a much different opponent to the Czechs. It’s going to cause uproar from England fans whichever way Southgate goes.
