‘I’d like to see it happen’: Steve Nicol wants Liverpool to land Kalidou Kouliably

Former Liverpool star, Steve Nicol, has admitted he would love the club to sign reported target, Kalidou Kouliably.

The big Napoli defender is said to be a target for both Liverpool and Manchester City this summer. Having impressed for a number of seasons, it seems the 29-year-old might well land in the Premier League.

The Guardian claimed this month that Liverpool were potentially ahead of City in the race for Koulibaly. And Nicol, who was speaking to ESPN on YouTube, is keen to see the Reds wrap up a deal – but only for the right money.

“If the money is right [it’s a no-brainer]. But clearly, they’re asking for silly money. If it’s silly money it won’t happen, but I’d like to see it happen.

“The guy is absolutely in the prime of his career, he’s a great centre-back. Any team on the planet would like to have this guy, but it depends on the money.”

Liverpool have ramped up their work in the transfer market in the last few weeks. Adding to the signing of Kostas Tsimikas, the Reds have signed Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota for big money.

And after conceding three goals in their opening game against Leeds, Jurgen Klopp may well now look to add to his central defensive options.

Kouliably a superb player but Nicol is right here, the money needs to be right – TBR View

Nicol is known for not being shy in his views and, sometimes, can be a bit wide of the mark.

However, he is correct here with this opinion. Of course, Koulibaly would be a superb signing but he is pushing 30, so the money does need to be right as Nicol says.

If Liverpool do get his over the line, then they’ll be unstoppable. The thought of Koulibaly and Van Dijk at centre-back is a scary thought for Premier League forwards.
