Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry to sign veteran defender Maya Yoshida.
According to Club Doria, the Magpies are keen on the Japan captain ahead of the January transfer window.
Newcastle are currently battling for Premier League survival and could do with bolstering their ranks.

Yoshida would be a great shout for the Magpies, given his experience for club and country.
The 33-year-old has made close to 200 appearances for fellow Premier League outfit Southampton.
Yoshida also captains the Samurai Blue, having won 113 caps for his country.
The experienced defender joined Sampdoria in 2020 and has made 63 appearances for the Italians.
Yoshida remains first choice for his club, but his contract expires at the end of the season.
While Newcastle have huge financial muscle behind them, they have to be realistic about their January targets.
If they survive in the Premier League, then they can certainly kick on next season.
But in the meantime, the Magpies need experience and consistency.
As testament to Yoshida’s quality, Southampton supporters continue to sing his praises.
On 20 December, the Saints Twitter account shared footage of his goal against Everton in 2014.
And the reported Newcastle target got so much love from Southampton fans:
