‘I’d be very surprised’: Jenas convinced three of Tottenham’s subs last night will all be starting very soon

Jermaine Jenas thinks that Tottenham manager Antonio Conte will rotate his squad for the matches ahead.

Former Spurs midfielder Jenas was a pundit on BT Sport’s coverage of the 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt last night.

The result means that two home wins should be enough for Spurs to progress, but it was a frustrating, not-quite performance.

That came on the back of the 3-1 derby loss to Arsenal and Jenas said that he expects summer signings Djed Spence and Yves Bissouma as well as Matt Doherty to get more gametime soon.

Jenas on Tottenham draw

He said of Conte: “He needs to get these fringe players into the game. The players that he’s bought, Djed Spence, Matt Doherty, Yves Bissouma.

“He obviously doesn’t feel like they’re ready. But for them to progress they need to be getting more minutes.

“He keeps mentioning how many games there is to play. If they’re not playing over the next couple of weeks I’d be very surprised. They need to get up to speed and get some confidence.”

There was plenty of excitement over Tottenham’s summer transfer business and the likes of Ivan Perisic and Richarlison have come in and made an impact.

But we are still waiting for Bissouma and Spence to have any kind of effect, and Conte was tetchy when asked about the former Middlesbrough defender before this game.

One of the best aspects of the summer was the depth it gave Tottenham’s squad and they need to use it now with a busy month ahead.

It remains to be seen whether Conte will put some faith in his fringe players in the weeks to come.
