Ibrox return for Davis would surely spell the end of Rossiter's Rangers career

Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis finds himself out of favour at struggling Southampton, which has sparked rumours that he could be set for a return to Ibrox.

The clever playmaker clearly has strong feelings for the club and still has plenty to offer.

His runs from midfield are intelligent, he is a good user of the ball as well as the kind of leader Steven Gerrard needs in his Gers side.

A return to Ibrox would be a very good coup indeed, but it would surely spell the end of one man’s Rangers career – Jordan Rossiter.

The English midfielder was supposed to be the new Gerrard when he came through at Liverpool, but his career has not panned out like that.

His move to Ibrox has been a failure and even the arrival of the former Liverpool icon has not managed to spark his career back into life.

Still 21, he has plenty of time to rebuild his career; one other ‘new Gerrard’, Conor Coady, is currently doing a great job of doing exactly that with high-flying Wolves.

But the arrival of Davis would underline Gerrard’s commitment to the here and now; and there should be no place for Rossiter in those immediate plans.
